Although Sony hasn’t provided a confirmed release date, several hints suggest we may see the PS6 around 2027. In early 2024, Sony’s Senior Vice President, Naomi Matsuoka, said that the PlayStation 5 (PS5) is in its final stage. Expect the new PS6 console to arrive sometime in 2026 or 2027. Court documents from Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard acquisition suggested Sony’s next console might launch by 2027.
The PS4 and PS3 both had seven-year life cycles before their successors launched. This suggests we may expect the PS6 to hit shelves toward the end of 2027 or shortly thereafter.

PS6 Price Prediction
Estimating the PS6 price is tricky without concrete details about its components. We can estimate the price based on the cost of current gaming hardware and the PS5 Pro’s price point. With that, it’s safe to assume that the PS6 will cost $700, potentially reaching the $800 range at launch.
High-end specs and new features could push the cost further, but until more information emerges, this is a speculative estimate.
PS6 Specs
Building on the foundation of the PS5, the PS6 is expected to have the best technology features. Industry insiders suggest that Sony will continue its partnership with AMD, just as it has done with previous PlayStation models. This means that the PS6 will feature AMD’s next-gen chips, set for release in 2025. If so, this would help ensure backward compatibility with PS5 games. This means you will be able to play PS5 games on the PlayStation 6 console.
Aside from the advanced AMD chips, the PS6 will have improved storage. Most of the latest games these days have more space requirements. Fifa 2023, for instance, demands an internal space of 40 GB on the console. A lot of PS5 games have more capacity requirements too. Expect the PlayStation 6 to have a base space of at least 2TB. In addition to the enhanced capacity, the PS6 will have faster load times and improved SSD technology, which was a major selling point for the PS5.
